List Miłosny (Love letter), 2022
Film, 00:03:55
The work is a love letter to the artist’s family allotment, expressing the common anxiety of phases of our lives coming to an end. The artist and her parents have immigrated to different countries, and with her grandparents no longer able to take care of the allotment, the family has been considering selling it.
The artist speaks directly to the allotment as though speaking to a loved one. The bonds we make help define our identity, and their potential loss may lead us to question who we are without them. The monologue that accompanies the work weaves between longing and acceptance, capturing the ache of holding onto something that can no longer be held. As time brings change to our surroundings and the people around us, we come to realize that there are experiences we will never get to relive again. However, as things come to an end, the emotional connection stays, continuing to shape who we are.
